April 28, 2020 – There were some unforeseen delays in getting the first phase of the fountain bluff constructed by our earlier targeted date. However, the bluff is complete and the three stupendous heroic size bronze sculptures produced by Kwan Wu are installed. See the The Site Takes Shape Slideshow to view the progress.
A planned “Unveiling Ceremony” has been postponed because of the pandemic.
In fundraising news, we are pleased to announce that we received significant funding through Kansas City’s PIAC process in the 2020-2021 Budget for the next phase of construction. This phase will include adding the additional bluff area with the water feature. It will also include building the plaza area with wall simulating a trading post which is a huge part of the educational component.
Our goal is to complete the project by next summer in time to celebrate Missouri’s 200th Anniversary of statehood. Missouri was admitted to the United States in 1821, the same year Francois Chouteau established his fur trading post on the banks of the Missouri River in Clay County which was the new western frontier.
We will not be able to reach our goal without your help. If you haven’t already, now is the time to consider making a donation to support this magnificent project that will stand for decades celebrating our heritage.
To donate, make checks payable to “City of Fountains Foundation” memo “Chouteau Fountain”. Send to City of Fountains Foundation, PO Box 9193, Shawnee Mission, KS 66201-1793.
Thank you for your continued support.
